A site-counter is an interesting tool from which you can learn a lot. It can also keep you motivated seeing the number of visitors.
So what can I learn from 2007 (minus week 52) ?

Well, first a continuing stream of almost 12.000 visitors bringing 480 pageviews each week (you should note that only about 10% of my pages has a counter, so probably the number of pageviews by these 12.000 visitors is much more)

It is not surprizing that most of the visitors come from the Netherlands, but since I write in English the other countries are increases.

  • Take a look at my 90%-score of countries:
  • Netherlands 70,3%
  • Belgium 5,0%
  • Germany 4,2%
  • USA 3,8%
  • United Kingdom 2,5%
  • Australië 1,9%
  • Denmark 1,9%
  • Canada 1,5%

Further it is interesting to know where the visitors come from. I learned that Bookmarks was the biggest referrer-post with 37%. So there is a select group of returning visitors.

  • To cover 80% of the referrers I should mention the visitors coming from:
  • www.google.nl 23%
  • kano.startpagina.nl 8%
  • kajakwoerden.blogspot.com (Hans Heupink's blog) 5%
  • www.ms-composite.cz (direct link to the Vestvika-testreport) 4%
  • www.kanovereniging-uitgeest.nl (the kayakclub where I am member) 2%
  • seakayakphoto.blogspot.com (Douglass Wilcox's blog) 2%
  • The rest came from a long, long list of referrers below 1%.

So I would like to thank Hans and Douglass for their obvious promotion of my weblog.
Further it can be seen that Google indeed is an important tool.

Next thing interesting to know is: what interests my visitors most? That's a pure marketing question which can be used for future development of the site.

  • Unfortunately my free counter only provides a top-10-list of visited pages giving the following information:
  • Homepage 29%
  • weblog 22%
  • Vestvika-testreport 3%
  • Skim Distance-testreport 3%
  • The rest (not in the top-10) 43%

So I must be satisfied about my weblog: that´s being visited.

Finally, for a webmaster it is interesting to know something about the configurations of the visitors'-computers. Just to know which layout of my pages is required.

  • 95% of the visitors are using:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 73%
  • Mozilla 22%
  • 83% of the visitors are using the screen resolutions:
  • 1024x768 55%
  • 1280x1024 21%
  • 1280x800 7%

So let's see what 2008 will bring. smile
