In the last weeks I had not much to mention about progress of the test with the 16X . Is a matter of time (work, vacancy, ...) and no paddling-mates available at the days there was enough wind.

There are three things to mention however:

16x versus Baidarka
On a certain Wednesday-evening it was rather rough weather and I went, together with Wieger, for a paddle on the lake nearby the club. As I didn't plan to paddle from there I paddled my Baidarka which was at the club.
What's interesting is that, after having paddled quite a lot in the Epic16X the weeks before, the Baidarka felt like an very unstable kayak.
It's not that I had problems with that, but it was such a difference that I can only conclude that the stability of the 16X is very good. I concluded that before, but now the difference is clear as well.

Another Epic-issue is the Midwing-paddle and a Mariner.
Last weekend I repaired a Mariner from a club member. After finishing the job I wanted to get rid of the kayak because my garage was overfilled with kayaks now. As I was not in the mood for putting the rack on the roof of my car and drive the kayak to the club, I decided to paddle her "home"; a distance of 9 km. For propulsion I took the midwing.
I was surprised again: Probably I got used to the speed of the 16X, because in the Mariner it felt if I had to work real hard to achieve an acceptable speed. Afterwards I could conclude that I didn't do too bad as I made on average approx. 8 km/h so there is no need for doubts about my fitness-level. smile
What I want to say is that this supports my earlier notes on the 16X: being fast.

There is another link to Epic here as I paddled with the midwing-paddlewhich I adjusted, like on earlier tours, on 2,21m shaft-length. After a short while I had to re-adjust this length as it was too heavy to paddle the Mariner with. To me, this feels logical because a faster kayak requires a higher stroke-frequency than a slower kayak; or a longer paddle to maintain the lower frequency. After some trials I ended up at 2,18m which was more comfortable to paddle.
That's nice about these adjustable paddles: that you are able to re-adjust the shaft-length while seated in your cockpit. A perfect way of participating to the weather or to the kayak you are paddling.
